College/Department Information
Established in the summer of 2002, the Center for Biotechnology and Genomic Medicine (CBGM) at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University (AU) was developed to promote interdisciplinary and translational research in Biotechnology and Genomic Medicine with the ultimate goal of promoting predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory (4P) medicine. The Center's research efforts focus on two main areas: Discovery and validation of biomarkers for disease prediction and diagnosis; Pharmacomics and drug discovery for personalized medicine. CBGM is home of four internationally renowned programs in diabetes research: The Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young, the Prospective Assessment in Newborns of Diabetes Autoimmunity, the Diabetic Complications Consortium, and the Mouse Metabolic Phenotype Consortium. Additional research programs include autoimmune diseases, transplantation, and cancer. These research programs are supported by an annual extramural funding of approximately $12 million. The center houses several state-of-the-art high throughput and high content facilities for genetics, genomics, proteomics, drug screening and bioinformatics.
Job Summary
Oversees and performs laboratory work related to studies in vision research. Maintains research records, communicates effectively with other laboratory members, and collaborates well within a team. Also assists with ordering supplies and maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment.
Responsibilities

Communicating with patients, clinicians, and nurses at the clinic to obtain written informed consent from recruited subjects. Extracting subject data from patient charts. Maintaining all administrative binders and clinical databases. Ensuring compliance with all Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements. Transporting the samples collected in the clinic to the lab and placing them in -80C freezers. Will work closely with the PI, contributing to various aspects of the research project and playing an important role in the development and execution of the experiments. Additionally, responsible for data analysis and manuscript preparation.
Supervise junior members in the lab.
Assist the PI with writing publications and grant applications.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research. OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years of research and/or clinical experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary Minimum: $45,400 annually
Pay Band: B8
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
This position is (fully/partially) funded through external sources. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of these funds.
